A Candid Wedding Reception. As I have stated many times, when a couple pay for a wedding reception as part of their wedding day then that is where they should be. And I can’t stress this enough. If you have been to a wedding then I’m sure it has been common enough for the newly married couple to walk in when basically the drinks reception is nearing an end. Or it has been pushed until they arrive. Yet swiftly they will sit for their meal.
So where will the couple begin to mingle and enjoy this part of the day? And it is a big part of the day. With my way of working as a wedding photojournalist, a documentary wedding photographer, it is imperative that I make sure that they are at their hotel to let their hair down and enjoy it with their guests. Because it is their day.
The feedback I often get is quite often around the drink’s reception. Couples really get a kick out of that part of the day, during and also viewing the images later on. Besides, it is a part of the day that can throw up some nuggets for me where pictures are concerned, as I candidly document wedding guests enjoying drinks and conversation with friends and family.
Often I like to get creative, multi laying images to add a depth to a frame and capture perhaps a couple of conversations going on at the same time.
The above image is also a prime example of what I like to achieve.
The image at the top was taken at the Europe Hotel in Killarney. In this frame we have fifteen people kids and adults alike, sitting down and indulging in conversation. This seems a fun moment. Everyone is relaxed, and it looks a real happy moment. And it is. We can see the faces quite clear in this group, the groom to the right of the frame with a big glowing smile on his face. And we can second guess that those who we cannot see are obviously enjoying the moment.
It is an image that will linger for a long time and most importantly draw back happy memories. And rightly so. The drinks reception is the part of the day where the fun can begin. And a set Candid wedding Reception pictures will look lively.
